Characterization and optimization of quantum entropy sources based on phase diffusion in semiconductor lasers

Description

This project focuses on the innovation and performance improvement of integrated quantum entropy sources (QES), essential components for high-performance quantum random number generators (QRNGs). The approach combines theoretical and experimental contributions to enhance applications in advanced cybersecurity and efficient computing. The work involves the modeling and improvement of the metrology of these sources, integrating the research into the technological development of next-generation photonic devices.

Background

Pietro obtained his Degree in Physics at the University of Milano-Bicocca with the highest grade ( 110/110 cum laude ), where he completed a thesis on the morphological evolution of solids using Machine Learning methods. Currently, he is pursuing a Master's degree in Quantum Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin . He has experience in the fabrication and characterization of superconducting devices , especially in the optimization using self-assembled block copolymer nanostructures. His academic and technical background allows him to navigate from fundamental physics to the practical implementation of integrated quantum systems.

Motivation

The current need for more robust cybersecurity solutions and high-performance computing drives Pietro's research towards improving quantum technologies. He is motivated by the challenge of overcoming current technological limits through applied learning in innovative start-up environments. His goal is to contribute to the development of devices with a real impact on digital security, working collaboratively at the frontier of quantum engineering. His research interests focus on sources of quantum entropy, photonic metrology, superconducting device design and innovation in quantum generation systems.
