Lissajous curves

Visual activity to understand the interaction between two periodic signals using Lissajous curves.

This educational activity uses two signal generators and an oscilloscope to visualize Lissajous curves. Students explore how two periodic signals, usually sinusoidal, interact when applied to the X and Y axes of the oscilloscope. By varying the frequency, amplitude, and phase shift, they observe how the resulting figure changes. The activity provides a visual understanding of the relationship between frequency and phase. It is an intuitive and engaging introduction to signal analysis.
