Workshop: Construction of a digital thermometer

“Building a Digital Thermometer” integrates basic knowledge about temperature measurement with analog sensors such as the LM35 and programming with Arduino. ESO students will design circuits to measure temperature, simulating the operation of a thermometer with tools such as Tinkercad.

Activity description

This module introduces the basic principles of body temperature measurement using analog sensors and the fundamental concepts of electronics and programming with Arduino. Participants will learn the operation of the LM35 temperature sensor, signal conditioning, and visualization of the obtained data.

The activity consists of designing and building a digital thermometer using an LM35 sensor and an Arduino board. Once the circuit is assembled, the system will be calibrated, temperature measurements will be collected and the results obtained by each group will be analyzed. This practice simulates the operation of a digital body thermometer and allows understanding how sensors transform a physical quantity into an electronic signal that can be processed and interpreted.
